1 HOME PRODUCTS & SERVICES INTRODUCTION The Gertrude Wood Community Foundation (GWCF) is a faith and community based, grassroots organization established in December 2005. The GWCF is an independent social service agency and community development corporation. The mission of the GWCF is to promote family stability and empowerment through educational, social and community-based services and affordable housing for youth and families residing in the Driving Park Area and surrounding communities. Our vision for the target community is to create a safe, revitalized neighborhood, rich in resources and available services established through strong leadership and community partnerships.
Supportive Housing Services The 1 Home Financial Empowerment, Credit Restoration and Community Awareness Programs are designed to: assist individuals that desire to increase their knowledge/understanding of their finances; repair/improve their credit score; learn basic home maintenance skills and promote civic involvement. The programs will afford individuals the opportunity to have access to the best financial products/services when making major purchases, increasing wealth or becoming a viable force within their community. The 1 Home goal is to educate, enlighten and empower individuals to become financially independent and informed neighborhood residents!
Credit Restoration Program This program is designed to provide education of financial concepts and assist individuals to resolve credit issues that may prevent them from obtaining mortgage loan approval or to improve their overall credit score.
Our comprehensive program consists of:
complete review of the participants credit report with a certified counselor
a detailed action plan designed to improve their credit score
scheduled follow up consultation to ensure the participants success in the program
personalized attention to their specific needs
assistance with disputes, settlements etc.
long lasting tips/tools to enhance their credit profile - not just a quick fix!
information/resources to assist the participant in building/increasing wealth
after care program to monitor and maintain results
The initial assessment is approximately 1 hour and follow up sessions are about the same. The counselor works with the individual until they reach their credit and/or financial goal and can move forward with financing of their major purchase.
The goal of the Credit Restoration Program is to educate and empower individuals to become financially independent, increase wealth through savings/investments and/or the purchase of real estate,
Financial Empowerment Program Financial Empowerment workshops are available for small groups with a minimum size of 10 participants. In these sessions money management and life planning are covered. Participants will learn to develop a budget, review/enhance credit and various methods to save money. They will also gain insight into banking, insurance, legal and financial services, as well as discuss career positioning and entrepreneurship. The workshops will be conducted over a period of either 4 consecutive weekly evening meetings or 2 consecutive Saturday morning meetings. The topics covered are as follows:
Effective Budgeting, Credit/Credit Enhancement
Banking/Savings & Investments/Financial Planning
Industry professionals that are well versed in each subject area will facilitate the workshops. Class evaluations will be provided at the end of each session to determine if the information was indeed beneficial and will assist the participant in improving their financial/life goals. COST:$200.00 per 2-hour session or $750.00 per 8-hour session (4/2-hour sessions)
Home Maintenance & Community Relations (HMCR) Program 1-hour session is offered that cover home maintenance/improvement and community relations. In this session, participants will receive information on:
Neighborhood civic meetings/neighborhood watch
Accessing local services
The goal of the HMCR Program is to raise awareness of various civic elements within the community to become an active participant and increase skill levels on conducting basic interior and exterior home maintenance practices.
COST:$150.00 per session
1 Home Team/Consultants Our team consists of 2 consultants that are certified Financial Coaches. They have supported this program for approximately 2 years and worked with numerous participants in achieving their financial goals.
Mashelle Y. Williams-Gladney is a consultant for Gertrude Wood Community Foundations 1 Home – Financial Literacy and Credit Restoration Programs. She was previously an Assistant Housing Counseling Manager with the Ohio Housing Finance Agency and Program Coordinator with Greater Linden Development Corporation. Mashelle has received numerous commendations from external and internal partners applauding her commitment to excellent service.
In her current capacity, she has structured a financial literacy and credit restoration program to assist residents in the Driving Park Community to raise awareness of their current financial condition and provide tools to change their situation and help them achieve their goal of homeownership and/or or improving their financial profile. She has obtained certifications in Homeownership Counseling for Program Managers and Executive Directors, Foreclosure Intervention and Default Counseling, Homebuyer Education Methods-Training the Trainer & Financial Coaching.
When working as an Assistant Housing Counseling Manager for Ohio Housing Finance Agency, she was dedicated to helping families maintain their dream of homeownership utilizing programs available thru the Save the Dream Ohio Initiative. Ohio was designated as one of the Hardest Hit States and received $570.4 million in funding from the Federal Government to assist homeowners at risk of mortgage loan default or foreclosure. Over her five year term of employment, Mashelle assisted over 1,000 homeowners.
As a Program Coordinator for Greater Linden Development Corporation, she assisted prospective homeowners to purchase their first home which included the development of a homebuyer/financial fitness program which focused on budget, credit, investments, mortgage, relator, legal, home inspection and title services. Mashelle also participated in focus groups relative to neighborhood development/growth and worked with investors to locate housing/potential tenants/lease-to-own clientele. She also has 6 years of mortgage origination experience.
Mashelle’s passion is to educate, enlighten and empower individuals; providing them the tools they need to become financially independent in order to reach their personal goals.
